Long Distance Romance Tips for Loving Your Wife

Dave Pipitone

A long distance romance can be fun and easy to do when you need to stay connected. When you have a job or career that requires you to travel and you frequently stay overnight away from home, keeping in touch can be challenging. How do you keep the romance in your long-distance relationship? How do you remain a ‘couple’ when you are often away from each other?

It takes some effort, but with a little thinking ahead, planning and dedication, you can make your wife feel so glad she loves you. You can keep the romance in your relationship while you are away. AND…you can ensure that your ‘special someone’ will look forward to your return and welcome you with open arms!

Here are several fun things that your wife will love you for:

If you leave on a business trip, leave something for your wife to find. Just plan ahead and place an item or a ‘care package’ under the bed or in a kitchen cabinet before you leave. Then, leave a note telling her that she has a surprise waiting for her if she is willing to look for it. You can give her a clue or two, and then watch her hunt for it.

If you’d rather ‘send’ a gift from another place, you can do that too. Here's how. Be creative and know what your wife likes. Is it Beanie Babies? Chocolate? Buy these items before you leave. Prepare the package to be mailed to her later. Then, tuck the package(s) in your suitcase and mail it when you are out of town. Youcan also buy the items on the road and mail the package back home when you feel your wife needs a pick-me-up.

The gifts that you package don’t have to be expensive or elaborate. It is the THOUGHT that counts. Make sure that you protect fragile items with bubble pack or some other cushioning agent, so it doesn’t arrive broken. Put enough postage on the package so that it will arrive at your home, without it being returned to you.

Here are some things to include in a "Care Package"

  • Write a short note for every day that you will be gone. Put each note in an envelope and label it with the date you want your partner to open the envelope.
  • If you know your wife has to make a big presentation at work on a certain day, or has a very busy appointment calednar, write a note to lift her spirits and tell her you believe in her.
  • Mail the package with all the notes in it and your partner will look forward to opening each note each day while you are away!
  • Make or buy a calendar and write notes to your wife on the calendar for each day or for special days. She can display the calendar at home or in the office. Every time she reads a not that you've written, she will remember that you are thinking of her.

  • Make a handmade, silly calendars with art work and drawings, or include pictures of you and her, the ‘special places’ you’ve gone together, the things you've done. Be sure to remember your anniversary!
  • Don't worry about the perfect packaging. Even if you aren’t a master artist of photographer, your wife will love the thought!

Making a Personal Care Package

You can give your wife a personal package that includes items that will remind her of you. Here's how:
  • Put a personal item in the package (an comb, a cufflink or something that belongs to you.) Keep one part of a pair, give the other to your wife. You can claim it when you return.
  • Include a non-perishable edible item (like chocolate, licorice, a lollipop, or perhaps a small bag of raisins if your wife eats an energy snack.
  • Make a CD of songs you both love and send a copy with a romantic letter or note.
  • Take the airline magazine to your hotel, cut out pictures and works and tape or glue them on the hotel stationary to make a funny or sweet love letter ‘from the road’.

As you can see, keeping a long distance romance going while you are away can be fun and make a reunion with your wife even more exciting.
